Trees to be felled for safety
The public green areas of the city of Zug are continuously maintained, and the trees are also comprehensively inspected. Trees that are no longer stable or whose life cycle is coming to an end will again have to be cut down this winter.
As the City of Zug informed in a statement on Thursday, some trees will have to be cut down for safety reasons. According to the press release, trees will have to be felled, with replacement plantings, at the following locations:
- Fröschenmatt playground: The poplars are losing their branches for reasons of age, and these could fall on small and large visitors. For safety reasons, the trees must now be cut down. As replacement trees, the Werkhof will plant a walnut tree, a maple tree and an oak tree.
- Cemetery: The distinctive Japanese Pagoda tree in the upper part of the cemetery will have to be replaced by a similar tree.
- Herti schoolhouse: A dying mountain maple will be replaced by a tree of the same species.
- Letzi schoolhouse: Two cherry trees that are slowly withering are to be replaced by an apple tree and a field maple.
- Ship landing stage ‘Station’ (Schiffsanlegestelle Bahnhof): The poplar at the pavilion by the ship's landing stage “Bahnhof” has branch damage and its stability has decreased. The tree will be felled without replacement, so that the weeping beech next to it can develop better.
- Poststrasse: In the course of early summer, the trees to the west and some of the trees to the east will be felled as part of various works by the WWZ and the city of Zug. The growing conditions for the trees will then be improved in such a way that the replacement and supplementary plantings planned at similar sites can develop better in the future.
- Hofstrasse: The dying amelanchiers (shadbush) will be replaced by more strongly growing specimens. The tree base will be renewed at the same time.
- Baarerstrasse: Individual maple trees along the roadside show large amounts of salt damage, and will have to be cut back sharply.
- Mülimattweg: A dead ash tree will be replaced by a narrow-leafed ash.
- Loreto schoolhouse: The asphalt area by the open bicycle parking spaces along the Loretostrasse is to be converted into a green area. The existing plane tree must be felled in connection with the link to the Circulago heat network, and will replaced by a new tree after the construction work.
In addition, numerous thinning and cutting work will be carried out on the hedges by the school buildings, playgrounds and along bodies of water. The damage that has been caused by the heavy snowfall on trees and shrubs will also be repaired.
