Three fraudsters arrested

In the municipality of Unterägeri, three people who were trying to illegally collect charity donations were investigated by the police . The three Romanians were then arrested.

On Wednesday afternoon, shortly before 3:30 p.m., a report was received by the Zug Police Operations Headquarters that three people were begging in front of a grocery store in Unterägeri. Thanks to the accurate personal details, the three wanted persons were then able to be stopped and checked. The investigation revealed that the Romanian nationals had collected donations using false information. They had pretended to be employees of a charity. The flyers were fake and the three Romanians were actually trying to obtain money in a fraudulent manner. The 18- and 22-year-old women and the 25-year-old man confessed during the questioning.

They were temporarily detained. The in-duty judge at the public prosecutor's office of the Canton of Zug imposed a fine of 40 daily rates on each of them for fraudulent use of the trademark.

The Zug police advise the exercise of a healthy suspicion, and gives the following tips:

• Sensitize the elderly in particular, and make them aware of the new scams in your area.

• Don't be spontaneously persuaded to make a donation that you might regret later.

• If you wish to make a donation, compare the flyer information and the IBAN number with the well-known charity in advance. You can also search the phone number online and contact the organisation as a check.

•Be especially vigilant if the advice given does not seem competent.
