The Restaurant Zugerberg is to re-open on 1 September - with a new tenant

The Zugerberg is a popular excursion destination. Following the relaying of the tracks of the Zugerberg mountain railway last year, the mountain is also getting a restaurant again.

The Zugerberg Restaurant by the mountain station of the Zugerberg funicular railway has been closed for more than a year, but the new/old restaurant will now reopen on 1 September, as the Zugerberg-Bahn AG writes in a statement. The new tenant is Cindy Uslu-Hodel from Allenwinden. She will be "focusing on good cuisine with regional ingredients". The Zugerberg Railway remains the owner.

Uslu-Hodel is an experienced restaurateur with a cooking diploma and a landlord's licence. What has prompted her to take this step? "Our guests at the Zugerberg Restaurant come to us for refreshments after a hike or a family outing, to celebrate a birthday or simply to relax. They are people who love good things and who like to take time to enjoy a beautiful moment. To be able to entertain in such an environment - and with a view of the Rigi and Pilatus - is probably a dream come true for every restaurateur. I am very much looking forward to the new task," said Uslu-Hodel in a press release.

The Montana Institute has been using the premises for seminars since the closure of the restaurant. The Zugerberg funicular railway line was renovated last year over a period of ten months. Philipp Hofmann, Managing Director of the Zugerberg Railway, says: "I’m personally very pleased that we can offer a restaurant again. The Zugerberg restaurant is in a unique location, and can be reached quickly and directly from the city by train. Just get on the train and you can enjoy dinner with friends or attend a company event high above Zug. Where else is that possible?"

Stefan Meier had been catering at the Zugerberg restaurant for the ten years up to January 2022, in addition to the Rathauskeller restaurant in Zug. The renewal of the railway tracks, and the accompanying shutdown of the Zugerberg railway for nearly a year, as well as his impending retirement, contributed to the chef's decision to close the restaurant.
