The Chilbi will take place

A step back to normality: Baar will celebrate its Chilbi from 13 to 15 November 2021 – in a slightly different form, and smaller than usual. The Christchindli-Märt on 27 November will also take place.

"A cancellation would have been easier, but we’d like to give the people of Baar a piece of normality back after almost two years of pandemic," says municipal councillor Sonja Zeberg-Langenegger in a media release from the municipality of Baar. "The municipal council has therefore decided to carry out the Baarer Chilbi (annual fair) from 13 to 15 November in accordance with the protective measures that currently apply."

Carousels, the scent of hot chestnuts (Marroni) and candy floss (Zuckerwatte) should also be possible in Corona times, subject to certain restrictions. The traditional Chilbi-Märt (fairground market) will take place as usual on the Dorfstrasse. In order to comply with the protective measures, it is expected that fewer stands will be set up, and one-way traffic (for pedestrians) will also apply.

The various Chilbi-Beizen (fairground bars), which are managed by clubs from Baar, can be operated under the guidelines currently applicable for gastronomy. This means that only those who present a valid Covid certificate will be granted access. The same applies to the Chilbibahnen (fairground rides). These are expected to be set up in a cordoned-off area near the Schwesternhaus. "We will reduce the range of fairground rides, and will focus on children and families," says Sonja Zeberg-Langenegger in the statement.

The detailed protection concept is now being worked out
As the licensing authority, the canton has been involved in the investigations needed to carry out the Baarer Chilbi on a smaller scale and in a slightly different form. The responsible Real Estate/Sports Department will now develop a detailed protection concept for the Chilbi, and have it finally approved by the canton. They will also contact the operators of the fairground rides, the stallholders vin the market and the clubs that each run a bar at the annual fair.

The Christchindli-Märt will also take place
And the Baarer Chilbi is not the only traditional event that is planned to be held. The municipal council has made the fundamental decision that the Christchindli-Märt (Christ-child Christmas market) will also take place on Saturday, 27 November 2021. Experience with the Samschtig-Märt (Saturday market) and the flea market (Flöhmarkt) has shown that markets can be carried out well under the applicable protective measures. Whether and in what form the Christmas concerts, the Chlaus (St Nicholas) procession and other components of the Christchindli-Märt can also be planned is now being examined in detail.
