The Baar Jazz Concerts are back

"Jazz live – i de Braui" will pick up speed again with the René Bondt Quintet (RBQ) on 30 September at the Brauerei restaurant in Baar. This continues an established jazz concert series.

The Jazz in Baar supporting association offers a wide range of jazz music in specific restaurants for jazz lovers and those who want to become one. Traditional songs, from New Orleans to Dixieland and Swing to Blues, Boogie-Woogie and Rock'n'Roll, will be performed on four more events this year. In conversation with Ruedi Jung, one of the three members of the Music Commission of the supporting association, it becomes clear how much commitment is necessary from volunteers in order to set up the versatile program. "I now have a broad network, both in terms of musicians and organisers," says Ruedi Jung about his work. Even before the foundation of the association, he was one of the driving forces in the development of the Baar jazz concert scene, and uses his relationships to book formations that are not too well known locally.

Eating, drinking and enjoying music
As the name suggests, admission to the “Jazz live - i de Braui” concert is free of charge, although the organiser, and above all the musicians, hope for a suitable voluntary contribution. In any case, a telephone reservation (041 761 15 85) is required for the concert and the evening meal. According to Ruedi Jung, the association was working together with the hosts on site to develop a protection concept against Covid, even before the introduction of the certificate requirement. He is now convinced that, with the 3-G regulations, the event can now be held under almost normal conditions, combined with the hope that visitors will turn up as numerously as before the pandemic.

Small but fine in the "Höllgrotten"
This can also be the motto for the third Jazz in Baar production, entitled "Jazz & Dine – i de Höll" in the cosy Waldrestaurant Höllgrotten. In these atmospheric, atmospheric spaces, culture can be created in which musicians and audiences meet in a lively process and exchange, says Ruedi Jung. Concerts with high expectations on the musicians are offered on five Friday evenings in the winter half-year. This series will start on 22 October with the quintet A la Django. As the name suggests, the five young musicians dedicate themselves to gypsy swing.

With this offer, you can also book a dinner prepared by the landlady Caroline Greipl and her team together with the concert for the price of CHF 75. "With around 40 seats, it's an intimate setting," says Ruedi Jung, and the formations are usually smaller, but all the more select. A reservation by phone (041 761 66 05) or by e-mail (restaurant-hoellgrotten@gmx.ch) is required.

Although there is on-site parking, a free shuttle bus is available as an alternative to transport guests from Brauerei Baar bus station to the Restaurant Höllgrotten and back again. Ruedi Jung knows from experience that the success of such a project also depends on patrons and sponsors, whether private or public and institutional cultural promoters. In addition, he has the supporting association behind him – which is open to everyone, and new members are always welcome.
