Suspect detained in connection with robbery at city jewellery store in 2014

 

Back in 2014, on 4 November, three men raided a jewellery store in the city during which one of them threatened the salesman with a handgun, prior to making off in an unknown direction with watches worth hundreds of thousands of francs. Since this time, no arrests had been made in connection with this crime, until now.

 

 

As journalist Andrea Muff reported, the Zug police made a detailed investigation at the time and were keen to find out the whereabouts of a Lithuanian national who is thought to have been the one who threatened the assistant with a gun. It was after seeking cooperation with police authorities abroad that German police contacted the Zug police after this now 28-year-old was arrested in January of 2017 following his conviction for involvement in another robbery in Germany and subsequent sentencing to eight years’ imprisonment.

 

He was duly brought to Zug for questioning at the end of March and he now faces charges relating to the robbery here. He has since been returned to Germany until his court case begins.
