Stork causes power outage

A stork caused an hour-long power interruption in about half of Hünenberg on Tuesday evening. The bird flew into a regional distribution network. Some municipalities communities in Lucerne were also without electricity for a short time.

The Hünenberg Electric Cooperative (Elektro-Genossenschaft Hünenberg, EGH) reported that a bird had caused a short circuit shortly in the medium-voltage network of the CKW just before 9 p.m. As a result, a transformer in the Rotkreuz substation of the CKW was damaged.

According to the EGH, this also meant that the second half of Hünenberg was also affected for a short time, and other parts of the CKW supply area were without power for 15 minutes. According to the CKW, these were households in the Lucerne municipalities of Inwil, Honau, Gisikon, Meierskappel and Root, as well as Dietwil in the canton of Aargau.

Yesterday evening, between 21:15 and 23:30, there was a loss of power in the municipality of Hünenberg. Parts of the village, as well as the areas of Drälikon, Mattenboden, Stadelmatt and Bützen were affected. The reason: a stork caused a short circuit.
