Shots fired in the middle of the night on Landsgemeindeplatz: 34-year-old seriously injured

A violent offence took place in the middle of the night on Landsgemeindeplatz. A man sustained life-threatening injuries. The shooter fled, but was arrested after a manhunt.

At 3.30 a.m. on Friday, a violent offence was committed on the Landsgemeindeplatz in the centre of Zug: a man was critically injured by gunshots. Several patrols were deployed immediately, as reported by the Zug police on Friday afternoon. The shooter fled the scene before the emergency services arrived.

The Zug police immediately launched an intensive investigation and a manhunt. Shortly after 10 a.m., a suspect was arrested in the city of Zug by the Luchs intervention unit. He is a 30-year-old Kosovan. The man injured by the shot, a 34-year-old Swiss national, was taken to hospital after receiving initial medical treatment from the Zug ambulance service, where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition is stable, it is reported.

The motive and the exact course of events are the subject of further investigations. Further investigations are being carried out by the criminal investigation department in collaboration with the public prosecutor's office of the Canton of Zug.

The forensic service of the Zug police, in collaboration with specialists from the Forensic Institute in Zurich, has carried out an extensive investigation at the scene.
