Rumanian national faces charges after conning local woman out of more than CHF 500,000

A Rumanian national is currently in custody awaiting trial on charges of fraud after he tricked a local woman into handing over CHF 500,000 in all.

Initially, the 43-year-old east European claimed he was ill and in financial difficulties, his pleas for help being so convincing that the 60-year-old woman agreed to help.

As journalist Rahel Hug mentioned, between the years 2017 and 2019, the woman handed over CHF 525,000 to the trickster, either through bank transfer or in cash.

It was earlier this year that the woman became suspicious and called the police and it was on the last meeting between the two, when yet further cash was expected to have been handed over, that the police were waiting and duly handcuffed him.

While he initially claimed he was innocent, he began to contradict himself and ended up admitting he had lied in order to obtain the money.
