Power outage partially paralyzes telephone network

A power outage in the canton of Zug on Tuesday afternoon led to a loss of fixed-line telephony throughout the cantonal administration. The police were also affected, and, for some time, could only be reached by the emergency call service.

The Zug police informed about the breakdown via Twitter. Various components of the information and communication tools were down, according to the Alert Swiss warning app. According to the website of the energy provider WWZ, there was a power outage in the city of Zug, Walchwil and parts of Menzingen, Neuheim and Baar between 1.10 pm and 1.15 pm.

At the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, the canton reported that a major emergency power component was damaged following the power outage. The entire administration was unable to make or receive calls for several hours, although internal communication continued to work. The departments of the cantonal administration, and the services of the city of Zug could also not be reached by telephone.

The repair of the fault is expected to last into the evening hours, as reported by the Zug police on Twitter. On request, Swisscom said that there were no disturbances in its network in the canton of Zug. In the absence of electricity or emergency power, however, many customers were unable to use telecommunications services connected to routers.
