Police dog catches burglars in flagrante

In search of a place to sleep, three men broke into a scout hut. They were caught red-handed – thanks in part to police dog Chevy.

Police dog Chevy caught a burglar who had broken into a scout hut (Pfadihütte) in the city of Zug at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday evening. In total, the police arrested three men from Morocco, aged 18, 24 and 26. They had broken into the scout hut on the Bergliweg in Zug in search of a place to sleep. An alert citizen spotted them, and reported them to the police. Police patrols immediately moved out and surrounded the building, and two burglars were arrested.

But noises could still be heard from inside the hut. As the person who was in the scout hut refused to come out despite repeated requests, police dog Chevy and his handler were deployed. Thanks to his good nose, “Chevy” was able to quickly locate the man in one of the rooms. As a result, the uninvited guest was also arrested by the police.

Investigations by Zug law enforcement authorities revealed that the men had broken two windows at the scout hut and that one of the men had then entered the building through one of these windows. Cash was also stolen from a cash box. The 24-year-old also tore the fire alarm mounted in the ceiling out of its anchorage while he was in a cell. The Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal investigation against the three accused.
