Over 65-year-olds can now register for booster jab

From 1.30 p.m. on 10 November, all Zug residents over the age of 65 can register for the Corona booster vaccination. The first doses of the vaccine will be administered on 15 November.

The Canton of Zug is following the recommendation of the Federal Commission for Vaccination and is now recommending a booster vaccination to all persons aged 65 and over. If they wish, persons aged 16 to 64 years with chronic diseases with the highest risk can also receive a booster vaccination in individual cases, after consultation with the attending physician. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Federal Commission for Vaccination (EKIF) do not recommend booster vaccination to all other persons at the moment, as the protection against serious illnesses after two vaccinations is still so good that a booster vaccination does not currently bring any demonstrable improvement.

All Zug residents of the population group over 65 who have already been double-vaccinated are called upon to register for the booster vaccination on www.corona-impfung-zug.ch or by telephone (041 531 48 00, daily 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), provided that their last vaccination was more than six months ago. Registration is possible from 10 November (1.30 p.m.), as the Health Directorate announced on Monday. The booster vaccinations will be carried out at the Vaccination Centre in Baar. In addition, two mobile vaccination teams will carry out a booster vaccination among the residents of retirement and nursing homes within two weeks.

All persons over the age of 65 who have already registered for their first vaccinations in the Canton of Zug will be informed via SMS about the registration for the booster vaccination. "Our goal is to provide the third vaccination for the population group who have been shown to benefit from a booster vaccination as quickly as possible," says Landammann Martin Pfister in the statement. "Through the booster vaccinations, we can better protect the elderly population and keep health care at the usual level at the same time."

Walk-in offer at a later date
At the beginning of the booster vaccination campaigns, the vaccinations will be carried out in the vaccination centre exclusively by appointment. Depending on demand, booster vaccinations will also be offered as a walk-in vaccination at a later date.

In addition to all over 65-year-olds, younger people with a chronic illness with the highest risk can also register for the booster vaccination. In these cases, a corresponding certificate from the attending physician is required (available on www.corona-impfung-zug.ch from 10 November). According to current evidence, there is no evidence of a decrease in protection against serious diseases after two vaccinations for healthy persons under the age of 65. For this reason, the EKIF does not currently recommend a booster vaccination for this population group. "We have full confidence in the clarifications of the EXPERTS of the EKIF and have therefore implemented this recommendation in the canton of Zug," Martin Pfister makes clear. "Should the booster vaccination be recommended for other population groups at a later date, we would immediately adapt our approach."
