Oil pollution in the Dersbach stream

Water pollution occurred in Dersbach, Hünenberg, due to improper storage of heating oil on a farm,. According to the Office for the Environment, there was no danger to the animals.

At around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (18 June 2022), the Zug Police Operations Control Centre received a report that the Dersbach stream smelled of turpentine. Investigations revealed that an oil film had formed, which was traced back to a farm in Hünenberg am See. In order to prevent the oil from entering Lake Zug, the Chemical Fire Unit of the Zug Fire Brigade set up an oil barrier, working together with the Hünenberg local fire brigade. According to the Office for the Environment, there was no danger to animals.

The Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Zug ordered a house search on the grounds of the farm. The emergency services thereby came across several barrels of heating oil and polluted fertilizer on the site. As these substances were improperly stored, a specialised company was called in to dispose of them professionally.

The owner of the farm has been charged, and will have to appear before the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Canton of Zug.

15 members of the Hünenberg Fire Brigade and the Zug Base Fire Brigade, the cantonal veterinarian, the Office for Forest and Game and employees of the Zug police were on duty for this incident.
