Nowhere in Switzerland are cars more expensive than in our canton

An analysis shows: the most expensive cars are on the road in the canton of Zug. But the canton of Schwyz is also not far behind. And the rest of Central Switzerland?

Not only does Canton Zug have the most expensive car number in Switzerland, cars themselves are also generally much more expensive in Zug than in the rest of Switzerland. At least this is what a statistic from AXA insurance company shows. According to the motor vehicle insurer, the average vehicle value in the canton of Zug is CHF 63,000 - and thereby more over a third more expensive than the Swiss average of CHF 47,000.

The closest to the canton of Zug are the people of Schwyz: for them, the value of a car is CHF 56,500. But the canton of Nidwalden is also not far behind either: For them, the average vehicle value is almost CHF 50,000.

Uri and Lucerne rank lower
The people of Obwalden are also just above the Swiss average. But the situation is different in the large canton of Lucerne. The average value of a car there is only CHF 46,000. And in the canton of the Gotthard tunnel? The people of Uri are rather thrifty when it comes to cars: a car there costs CHF 43,000. This puts them in fourth last place in the ranking.

According to AXA, the fact that the people of Zug have a preference for expensive cars is probably due, on the one hand, to the comparatively high level of wealth. On the other hand, the proportion of company cars is higher than in other cantons, which also raises the average. Cantons like Lucerne and Uri cannot keep up with this.

Not only expensive, but also modern
Canton Zug is also ahead in terms of vehicle age: cars are 8.9 years old on average, compared to 9.9 years across all cantons. Relatively new cars are also found in the canton of Nidwalden. There, the average age of a car is 9.2 years.

But the cantons of Obwalden (9.79 years), Uri (9.75 years) and Lucerne (9.61 years) are also below the Swiss average. In Lucerne and Uri, cars are modern but cheap. But no-one can hold a candle to the canton of Zug when it comes to cars.
