No rolls or sweets for the children this year

As was last the case in the Second World War, the throwing of edible delights to children has had to be cancelled this year. This is almost an (unhappy) premiere for the guild.

For the first time in the more than 300-year history of the Guild and Brotherhood of the Millers, Bakers and Sugar Bakers of the City of Zug (Zunft und Bruderschaft der Müller, Bäcker und Zuckerbäcker der Stadt Zug), the ¨’main event’ (Hauptbot) will not take place, as the organisers have announced. To a certain extent, this refers the General Assembly of the above-mentioned guild. The reason for the cancellation is the corona pandemic.

The cancellation also affects the Bäckermöhli, in which rolls and sweets are thrown to children in the old town. The last time that this event did not take place was during the Second World War, from 1940 to 1945.

Meeting in the summer
In order for the guild to be able to conclude its formal business for the year 2021, it will carry out the official parts of the preceding and main event, including a vote on new admissions to the guild, on 25 June 2021, "if the epidemiological circumstances permit it".

The next ‘Bäckermöhli’ is scheduled for January 26, 2022.
