No landline telephony, no Internet and no TV for several days

A number of utility cables caught fire on the Zugerstrasse early Sunday morning – and were completely destroyed in the process  As a result, the fixed network connections, the Internet and television lines have been interrupted in parts of the Cham East region. The loss of these services is likely to last for several days.

There was a fire on the Zugerstrasse in the municipality of Cham shortly before 0.30 am on early Sunday morning. According to a report from the Zug police on Sunday morning, the fire brigade of the municipality of Cham was immediately alerted, quickly arrived on site and was able to extinguish the fire.

Numerous utility lines were completely destroyed by the fire. As a result, fixed network connections, as well as the Internet and television lines, are currently inoperable in parts of the Cham East region. The mobile network is not affected by the interruption.

The material damage caused by the fire is considerable.
Zug police

Some Cham residents will have no TV for several days
The police speak of a "considerable" material damage, but cannot yet estimate it exactly, and specialists are currently working to restore the telephone, Internet and TV network. As the Zug police wrote on Facebook on Sunday afternoon, it is assumed that the correction of the disorder could last for several days. The police ask the population for show solidarity with those who do not have a smartphone.

"Please look out for each other, and help each other in case of an emergency."

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and the police are looking for witnesses who can provide information on the cause: any witnesses or people who have any information are asked to contact the police on 041 728 41 41.

No one was injured in the fire. Around 50 members of the Cham Fire Brigade, employees of the Fire Brigade Inspectorate, the Municipality of Cham, the Zug Rescue Service and the Zug Police were on duty.
