New Städtli schoolhouse will probably be more expensive

The building, which has been planned to stand for 20 years on the field near the primary school building, could cost more than around CHF 11 million.

The large green area in Cham known as the Städtliwiese is to disappear. The municipality is planning to build a temporary three-storey school building there for 160 pupils, and is thereby reacting to the rapid growth of the municipality, which has resulted in a lack of space in the schools. Rooms for a modular day school and other offers are also in the planning.

The planned building is designated as a temporary building, as it is to be demolished after 20 years and be used for other purposes. The building application was open for public inspection until recently, according to the Head of Construction (Bauchef) Rolf Ineichen, and no objections have been received.

Voting at the end of November
The voters in Cham clearly approved the project planning costs of CHF 1.2 million on 13 February. At that time, the construction costs were estimated at around CHF 11 million, with a vote on this to be held on 27 November of this year.

But the conditions have now changed with the start of the war in Ukraine, says Rolf Ineichen. "Due to the delivery difficulties, no company is currently making binding offers, and only daily prices are available." The municipal council will therefore most likely have to apply for a higher gross loan!
