Man from Central Switzerland caught with 170 pyro torches in his car

The employees of the Federal Customs (EZV) stopped a 25-year-old man from Central Switzerland on Thursday evening, as reported by the EZV on Friday. The man, who was returning from Germany, was checked just after the Basel-Grenzacherstrasse border crossing.

He was not able to produce any corresponding papers for the 170 pyro torches, which are subject to a permit, that he was transporting in his car, and they were therefore all confiscated. He told the officials that he had bought them for his carnival group.

According to the Explosives Law, pyrotechnical material requires a permit, and may not be imported without the corresponding permission, confirmed the EZV. A criminal case has now been opened against the man, who now faces a possible fine or imprisonment, according to the communiqué.
