Lake Festival to celebrate its 50th anniversary this coming Saturday

The 50th Lake Festival is to take place this coming Saturday, 22 June. Each year some 20,000 visitors attend and this year there could be even more as the Lucerne Festival is not taking place.

In addition to a wide variety of attractions and range of food and drink to enjoy, this year, the Patrouille Suisse, the equivalent of the Royal Air Force’s Red Arrows, will be demonstrating their flying skills (between 5.30 pm and 6.00 pm), not to mention what is expected to be a spectacular fireworks display later on.

This year visitors will not only able to see the planes over the lake but also follow live on screen what it is like in one of the cockpits. Furthermore, the pilots themselves will be on Landsgemeindeplatz afterwards to sign autographs and pose for selfies, too.

The fireworks display is due to start at 10.30 pm, preceded and followed a variety of musical entertainment. Fortunately, the weather forecast is looking good and indeed for the days prior to the event, when so much preparation work will be under way.

Daniel Schärer, the chairman of the board, of the ZUGsports company behind the event, mentioned how he already has successful experience in organising major anniversary events and paid tribute to all those engaged in setting up this one, which he feels is sure to be a real summer highlight for the city.

The public is kindly requested to use public transport that day, the SBB and ZVB providing additional services. Further details can be found on the www.zugerseefest.ch website.

Plane-spotters will be delighted to know that training flights for the aerial display will be taking place over the lake between 4.30 pm and 5.00 pm on Friday 21 June, though it could be a bit noisy.
