Futuristic: the Zug fire brigade is testing an electric fire engine

Another step towards a climate-friendly future is being taken in the city of Zug. The Volunteer Fire Brigade is currently testing an electrically operated tank fire engine.

The development strategy of the Zug City Council (Stadtrat) sees electromobility as an important contribution to a climate-friendly future. After various electric vehicles have been successfully on the road for several years by the city of Zug and the services depot (Werkhof), the use of an electrically operated water tank fire engine (Tanklöschfahrzeug) is now being tested by the Volunteer Fire Brigade of the City of Zug (FFZ: Freiwilligen Feuerwehr der Stadt Zug), as the City of Zug writes in a recent statement.

The requirements for an electrically operated heavy fire-fighting vehicle are high. Unlike an electric bus or an electric commercial vehicle in distribution mode, neither the journeys nor the charging times can be planned in advance. The current test operation over two months should therefore provide insights that can be taken into account for vehicle planning in Zug in the coming years.
