Foehn storm damages three boats in Lake Zug

The Foehn storm on Saturday created additional work for the Zug Cantonal Police and various fire departments. Two motorboats and one sailboat were torn from their buoys by the Cham Strandbad (lakeside beach) and were battered against the seawall and the rocks, according to a report from the Zug law enforcement agencies. The heavily damaged boats were able to be salvaged by the Sea Rescue of the Volunteer Fire Department (FFZ) and were secured on the shore.

A 4-man rowing skiff also found itself in problems by the Zug harbour, resulting in the lake rescue service being called in. The athletes, four young men, were able to reach the shore on their own, however, together with their boat.

The Foehn storm caused damage to two motor boats.

Numerous other emergency calls were received at the operations control centre of the Zug police on Saturday. These were mainly reports of trees and building barriers that had been knocked over. Billboards, bricks and a mobile toilet system were also whirled around by the storm. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
