First corona virus case in Central Switzerland

A 21-year-old man from Zug has tested positive for the Corona virues, and has been isolated in a Zurich hospital. Several people who have been in contact with him are now in quarantine.

The canton of Zug announced on Tuesday morning that a local person had been infected with the Corona virus. The canton writes: “The coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 was detected in a 21-year-old man who lives in the canton of Zug. The person contracted the virus at a private event in Switzerland. The person has a good, healthy constitution.”

As the person had been in the canton of Zurich for a few days, he is being isolated in a Zurich hospital, where the further course of the infection can be observed.

"Several people who were in close contact with the infected person have been placed in quarantine in their homes as a precautionary measure," the report said.

People who experience possible symptoms of COVID-19 disease (i.e. feeling unwell, dry cough, fatigue, fever) should contact their general practitioner by phone. As an alternative, the medical emergency service can be called (Tel.: 0900 008 008). The doctors will then assess whether there is a suspected case or not. Without being specifically instructed to do so, people who suspect they are infected should not go to a clinic or doctor’s practice themselves.

Despite this individual case, there is no heightened risk for the population of the canton of Zug. The cantonal authorities are still in constant contact with the ()BAG to assess the situation. "The most important protection continues to be compliance with the hygiene rules of the BAG."
