Fiona Zimmermann is again the fastest time trialist

Fiona Zimmermann , an 18-year-old member of RMV Cham-Hagendorn, has successfully defended her gold medal in the U19 classification. She wasn’t able to win a podium place in the road race, however.

"I’m very satisfied with the Swiss Championships. Although I wasn’t able to repeat both wins from last year, I’m still proud of what I have achieved," says Fiona Zimmermann, who hails from Walchwil. The 18-year-old member of the RMV Cham-Hagendorn won the gold medal in the time trial over 19 kilometres at the U19 Championships in Steinmaur in Zurich, and was fifth in the road race (63 kilometres).

Her good recent performances meant that the mediamatics apprentice has been selected by Swiss Cycling for the European Junior Championships, which will take place in Anadia (Portugal) at the beginning of July. Fiona Zimmermann will start in the individual time trial and in the road race of the U-19 classification.

She already represented Switzerland at the European Championships last year. "The fact that I have retained the trust of the Swiss association is a nice feeling." With what goal is she travelling to Portugal? "To gain as much experience as possible. If I could finish in the top ten, like I did in 2021, that would be a great success."
