Find your ideal Central Switzerland ski area Part 4

The ski season in Zug is just around the corner (school holidays in Zug started on Saturday 4th February 2023). But which area is best suited for families, for ambitious skiers or is a little away from the hustle and bustle? Over the next few days, we will provide some tips for skiing in Central Switzerland.

Are you looking for a ski resort where your whole gang can let off steam, or for one with special offers for families, or for  a more ambitious sporting challenge: or is one lift enough for you because you'll spend most of the time relaxing in the sun in a deckchair?

We have collected suggestions in four categories, which we will publish as follows over the next few days

For families: published last Friday
For the more ambitious skiers: was published on Monday, 6th February
For a group of friends: was published on Tuesday, 7th February
For minimalists: published today.
For partygoers: published today

For minimalists: Brüsti, Wirzweli and Neusell

For minimalists: Brüsti,

Season timetable: until the beginning of April 2023 (depending on the snow)

Number of lifts: 1 ski lift
Altitude: 1,525 metres above sea level

Day ticket prices: adults CHF 22, children CHF 18,
Arrival by Attinghausen-Brüsti cable car: adults CHF 20 return, children CHF 9.50 return.

Arrival by car: approx. 40 minutes from Lucerne to Attinghausen.

Arrival by public transport: By train or bus to the valley station of the Attinghausen-Brüsti gondola lift.

Description: A ski lift is operated on the Brüsti above Attinghausen. Thanks to its northern exposure, the ski area is considered to have guaranteed snow. The ski lift is mainly used by families for leisurely rides. The area is also popular as a starting point for snowshoe tours, such as the Brüsti Trail,. or ski tours, for example to Eggenmandli, Hoch Geissberg and Vorder Schloss.

For minimalists: Wirzweli

Season timetable: Dallenwil-Wirzweli gondola lift until 13 March, ski lift until 5 March 2023 (depending on snow conditions) daily from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Arrival by public transport: Take the train to Dallenwil, then walk (uphill) to the valley station of the gondola lift or take the free shuttle bus after calling 041 628 23 94.

Description: The Eggwald ski lift and a children's lift are operated on Wirzweli. Families mostly use the lift. Even when the parents are relaxing at the Häxächessu snow bar, the children are always in sight on the slopes. A gondola lift continues up to Gummen, where there is a mountain restaurant and the toboggan run starts.
If you want to reach the ski slope from Gummen, you will go through unprepared and uncontrolled terrain, where there are sometimes a few turns in deep snow. There are also several signposted snowshoe trails in the area. The operation of the ski lift is highly dependent on the respective snowfall line.

Arrival by public transport: By train to Biberegg station, walk (approx. 7 minutes) to the valley station of the lift.

Description: The Neusell ski area above the hamlet of Biberegg (Rothenthurm) has one blue, one red and one black piste, i.e. the whole spectrum along one lift. There is also a children's lift and a toboggan run. "The ski area for connoisseurs" - is the slogan of the operators. As the area is not high, it depends on a good snow fall.
Tip: You don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend for joint winter adventures, but would like to find one? Ski lift speed dating may provide a remedy - or at least the next anecdote.

For partygoers

There are no areas in central Switzerland that have a reputation as a party and après-ski destination - such as Sölden and Ischgl in Austria, or Laax in Graubünden. The most extensive evening entertainment is probably down in the valley in the village of Engelberg. In the central Swiss regions, you'll generally find rustic huts as well as snow bars and terraces with popular music or small pubs, along with more upmarket hotel bars. There are a few catering establishments and collectives that regularly organise events, parties or concerts, however.
Here is a selection:

Pinte Pub & Club, Andermatt
Bonihorst, Bonistock on Melchsee-Frutt
Bärghuis Jochpass, Jochpass in the Engelberg-Titlis area
Yucatan, Engelberg
Gletscherspalte, Engelberg
Parkhüttli Shredisfaction
Snowpark, Stoos

Our criteria for the selection and classification of ski areas:
Pricing (special offers for families), size and variety of offers, special features, existing clientele.

Seasonal schedules and opening times may vary depending on snow and weather conditions, as may the prices of the providers. The list of resorts and party organisers is not exhaustive and does not claim to be complete.
