Domestic violence: large-scale police operation in the Gartenstadt

Following a domestic dispute, a man in the Gartenstadt area of the City of Zug barricaded himself on the roof of a house for several hours. He was finally persuaded to give up in the early hours of the morning.

During a police operation for suspected domestic violence, a 50-year-old man hid on a house roof for hours. Shortly before 7.30 pm on Wednesday evening, his 40-year-old wife reported to the Zug police that she had been beaten by her husband. When the police arrived, the woman was outside and the man was in the flat, according to a statement by the Zug Police. After being contacted by police officers, the man fled to the roof of the apartment building, and then stayed there all night. The woman was taken to hospital.

Contact with the man was maintained during the whole time. Despite these intensive discussions, it was not possible to persuade the man to leave the roof and then the flat.

Jumping cushions installed
In order to protect the man if he tried to jump from the roof, the Volunteer Fire Brigade of the City of Zug (FFZ) set up jumping cushions on one side of the apartment building in the Gartenstadt  at around 2 am. After further discussions, the 50-year-old was finally persuaded to come back into the flat through a skylight at 7.15 am. The man was taken into custody and subsequently handed over to medical care. At no time was there any danger to third persons. The exact background of the incident is now the subject of further investigations.
