Corona vaccination now also available from family doctor

From 9 March, people aged between 65 to 74 can also be vaccinated. A pilot project is also underway.

According to the Health Directorate In the canton of Zug, more than 10,000 people have already received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccination. As a result, the first dates for 65-74 year olds can also be set from 9 March. "We are pleased to be able to extend vaccination to the next population group, despite the continued shortage of vaccine availability. It’s another important step in the fight against the pandemic," said health director Martin Pfister in a statement. If you want to make an appointment at the vaccination centre, you can still do so online. The website always contains the up-to-date information.

Doctors can get in touch with their patients
According to the communication, a pilot project for vaccinations in selected GP practices will also begin on 9 March. Eleven medical practices spread throughout the canton are now carrying out Covid-19 vaccinations. The names of the practices are not mentioned in the letter from the Health Directorate, however. "The doctor's practices will actively offer patients the vaccination, and there is no need to contact people who want to be vaccinated," the statement says. "We have chosen this approach so that the doctors will not be overrun with applications," explains Martin Pfister. Doctors know about their patients' pre-existing conditions and age, and know which of them would be eligible. "The pilot phase will indicate the amount of effort involved in dispensing vaccine doses to doctors, and how efficient this is," Pfister explains.

More time windows are expected to open soon
1,377 people at the highest risk are still currently waiting for vaccination, and a total of 18,408 have registered for vaccination. "There are, of course also younger, healthy people who have already registered for vaccination," Pfister explains. All those registered with the highest risk will be given the vaccination by mid-March.

"If all goes well, we will be able to open another window of opportunity in the course of April for people with mild pre-existing conditions, and from the end of April for healthcare professionals." Large-scale vaccination should be able to be carried out in May and June, when large quantities of vaccine are expected to be available,. "The Baar Vaccination Centre now administers around 300 doses per day. The capacity could be increased to around 1,400 doses per day," concludes Martin Pfister.
