Car catches fire on the A14 motorway

A fire broke out in a car that was driving along the A14 motorway. No one was injured, but the vehicle was a complete write-off. The fire led to widespread traffic obstructions in Baar in the evening rush hour.

At around 4:30 pm on Tuesday afternoon (14 March 2023), a 35-year-old was driving on the A14 motorway towards the end of the motorway in Walterswil. Between Zug and Baar, the  driver noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment area. He thereby drove onto the hard shoulder and dialled the emergency number.

When the emergency services arrived, the vehicle was already on fire, but the flames were finally extinguished by the Zug fire brigade. The driver was not injured.

During the fire-fighting operation, traffic had to be diverted past the scene of the fire in a single lane, and this led to widespread delays in the evening traffic.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated by the police.
