79-year-old loses her licence after nodding off at the wheel

A 79-year-old woman driver had her licence confiscated after she admitted nodding off at the wheel and subsequently crashing into a lamppost last Thursday afternoon. The incident also led to her 82-year-old woman passenger sustaining slight injuries for which she had to be taken to hospital.

The incident happened shortly before 3.30 pm that afternoon on Holzhäusernstrasse in Holzhäusern, her nodding off causing her to lose control over her vehicle, which went on to mount the pavement and crash into a hedge and a lamppost, resulting in her suffering from shock.

In a separate incident, three young cyclists were injured after their cycles collided in Steinhausen last Wednesday morning, two having to be taken to hospital for treatment.

The accident happened shortly before 11.15 am that morning as two young boys, aged between 13 and 14, were cycling along Allmendstrasse in the municipality, a third boy sitting on the saddle as the other pedalled.

It was as they approached the sportsground area that the two bikes collided, resulting in the two cyclists peddling falling on to the asphalt. Ambulances from Muri in the neighbouring canton of Argovia and Zug attended and took the boys to hospital, the third boy treated on the spot for grazes. It was mentioned how none of the boys was wearing a helmet at the time.
