76-year-old woman assaulted by young man in her own home

A 76-year-old woman was assaulted by a young man in her own home last Monday afternoon.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 2.14 pm after a man rang them to say his neighbour had been assaulted in her own home, adding that the culprit was still in the detached house. Police reacted swiftly and surrounded the house. However, even with the assistance of a police dog, they were not able to find anyone.

Apparently, the young man, thought to be between the ages of 25 and 30, had been calling at several houses in Grundstrasse and Grundmatt asking for money, just as he had done with the old lady. It was when she refused to give him any that he assaulted her. Fortunately, she managed to escape and alerted her neighbour, who, as mentioned, called the police.
