20-year-old woman sustains life-threatening injuries in car accident

A 20-year-old woman passenger in a car involved in an accident in Menzingen on Saturday evening had to be flown to a specialist clinic after she sustained life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened shortly after 6.15 pm as a 20-year-old man was driving on the cantonal road from Neuägeri towards the Lorzentobelbrücke bridge. It was shortly after the junction of the road which leads off to Schmittli that he lost control over his vehicle, causing it to flip over, ending upon its roof.

Fortunately, the driver himself suffered only slight injuries, another passenger escaping injury altogether. However, as mentioned, the other woman passenger was seriously injured and had to be freed from the vehicle by members of the fire brigade, before being flown to a hospital beyond the cantonal border by Rega helicopter.

The driver was also subsequently taken to hospital to provide samples of blood and urine.

During the rescue operation, the cantonal road had to be closed in both directions for some time, the police duly setting up a detour.

In another road traffic incident in Zug shortly before 5 pm that same evening, a 57-year-old driver crashed into the rear of another vehicle on Chamerstrasse, though fortunately no-one was injured and very little damage was caused.

However, it turned out the driver was more than three times over the permitted drink-driving limit. What is more, he was not able to produce a driving licence as it turned out he had been driving while banned. He was left to continue his way home on foot.
