18-year-old leads a wild chase with police through Zug and Lucerne

An 18-year-old in Cham, who does not hold a valid driver's license, decided to take a spin with a car belonging to a family member. When he saw a police patrol in the Cham village centre, he stepped on the gas to avoid being checked. The police are now looking for witnesses.

At 10:30 p.m. on Friday evening, a patrol of the Zug police in Cham wanted to stop and check the driver of a small car, as announced in a press release on Sunday. When the driver noticed the police, he increased speed and drove away through the built-up area at a high speed, in the direction of Hünenberg See and Rotkreuz. The man turned the car’s lights off several times during the ride through the thick fog.

The patrol almost lost sight of the fugitive on the stretch from Honau to Root via Gisikon, as the latter massively exceeded the signalled maximum speed. The driver lost control of his vehicle In the roundabout in Buchrain, and collided with the sculpture in the middle of the roundabout. He nevertheless continued driving.

The accident allowed the patrol to close in again. About 200 metres after the accident, the driver stopped, with his vehicle badly damaged and smoking, and was arrested by the emergency services.

The person responsible for the accident was taken to hospital for a check-up, and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the canton of Zug ordered a blood and urine sample. The vehicle was seized.

It turned out that the suspect, an 18-year-old Serb, did not have a valid driver's license and had "borrowed" the car from a family member without the latter’s knowledge, according to police. He will now have to answer to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Employees of the Lucerne Police were on duty for the accident recording, as well as the Lucerne Ambulance Service, the Lucerne and Zug Public Prosecutors and the Zug police.
