Farm Fresh
Autumn is arriving, bringing crisp air and golden hues to the season. That means cozy days, scenic strolls, and a bounty of hearty, seasonal harvests! We have a few places we’d love to recommend. Not only will you enjoy discovering more of the area, but you’ll also support sustainability—fresh, local produce without the carbon footprint of long transport—while savoring the very best flavors our local farmers have to offer.
Biohof Zug is an area favorite. Not only is the seasonal produce gorgeous to look at, they also have a great cafe, serving a lunch menu Tuesday through Friday with Biohof’s veggies taking center stage. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere, as well as delicious homemade desserts and coffee after keep us going back. Get there early so you can shop for farm fresh produce, eggs, bread, homemade jams, and more on site. The Biohof also offers event services and an online list of their organic produce.
The longstanding, family-run farm at Hof-Märcht in Baar has a sweet reputation. Their fruits and veggies are all ecologically produced. But better than that, they also offer jams, syrups, dried fruit, fruit juices, distilled water, liquers and wines all made from their scrumptious produce. They have an online shop and offer seasonal gift ideas.
Next up is Iten Letzi Zug, near Herti. Known for its commitment to organic farming and animal welfare, the farm has earned a loyal following. Its modern yet rustic farm shop stocks not only their own fresh produce but also goods from neighbouring farms. And for convenience, a 24-hour vending machine ensures you can pick up essentials even outside regular opening hours.
A wonderful family-friendly option is the Hofladen Schluechthof in Cham. In addition to a wide selection of local produce, the surroundings offer plenty for children to enjoy. There’s a playground with a climbing frame, sandpit, and even a tractor to explore, as well as farm animals including cows, sheep, rabbits, and pigs. It’s the perfect place to combine a shopping trip with a relaxed family outing.
In addition to the farms mentioned above, a visit to the Zuger Altstadtmarkt is highly recommended. Held every Saturday from 8:00 am to noon at the Landsgemeindeplatz in the heart of Zug, it’s the perfect spot to discover fresh produce, gourmet specialties, and seasonal flowers. You’ll even find a fishmonger among the stalls. Take the morning to meet the vendors, sample local products, and enjoy the views of the lake just steps away.
This is just a small selection to get you started — Zug has plenty more to explore. For a complete overview, take a look at the map of all farm shops across the canton: hofladen-zug.ch.
