Zuger Messe as much a part of Zug as the Kirschtorte

The Zuger Messe opened its doors for the 49th time on Saturday, 22 October. Numerous exhibitors, six special shows and various catering establishments are looking forward to welcoming many visitors.

As part of the official opening ceremony of the Zuger Messe (Zug Trade Fair) on Friday evening, Adrian Risi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Messe Zug AG, and Thomas Huwyler, Exhibition Director and Managing Director, welcomed the approximately 100 invited guests of the Zug Trade Fair on behalf of the exhibition management and the Board of Directors.

In a relaxed panel discussion with the moderator of the evening, Fabienne Gyr, they gave an insight into the organisation of the fair and shared their anticipation with the audience: "We are very happy and also very proud that the Zug trade fair is opening its doors once again.

The last Zug trade fair took place almost exactly three years ago – and so we feel the great enthusiasm for this, not only among the organisers and exhibitors with regard to the renewed implementation, but also among the population," said Thomas Huwyler.

The trade fair is a much a part of Zug as the Kirschtorte
"We took over the fair knowing that we were not sure whether it could take place in 2022. But we were always optimistic that it would work out and gave full throttle for it," added Adrian Risi.

Risi and Huwyler agree that the Zug trade fair is a much a part of Zug as the EVZ hockey team or the Kirschtorte (cherry cake). "Thanks to the motivation of the entire team, it has been possible to implement the trade fair in 2022 with a diverse, attractive programme," said Thomas Huwyler.

At the end of this panel discussion, Adrian Risi gave an outlook on the coming year, in which the Zug trade fair will celebrate its 50th edition: "We want to modernise the trade fair, but to also retain its basic character – not easy, but we will succeed."

Attractive special shows
Fabienne Gyr then welcomed representatives of the various special shows, who presented their own exhibitions.

The Swiss Museum of Transport, Zug farmers from the Farmers' Union of the Canton of Zug, the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation, the Zug Police, the Zug Brass Band Association and a cooperation between Zeba, Allmig and the Canton of Zug provided exciting insights into their special shows, which offer various highlights during the fair.

Landammann Martin Pfister as guest of honour
In the official opening speech that followed, Martin Pfister, Landammann (Chief Magistrate) of Zug, welcomed all those present on behalf of the entire Zug Governing Council (Regierungsrat), took a look back at the first historic Zug autumn fairs more than 500 years ago, and expressed his joy at the fact that the fair was now possible again: "The Zug Trade Fair is a fixed point in the annual calendar of the city of Zug,  but it is also a fixed point in the lives of many Zug residents."

He emphasized the fascination that the population has for trade fairs and congratulated the new trade fair management and shareholders on their courage and optimism. He also emphasized the importance of such trade fairs for society and the economy.

It was with great pleasure that Pfister declared the Zug Messe 2022 open. This official opening was immediately followed by an aperitif and a pleasant dinner for the guests in the new Herti Beiz.
