The Moos Kiosk in Hünenberg is bankrupt

A red sticker and a letter indicate that the bankruptcy office has sealed the doors of the popular Moos Kiosk at Chamerstrasse 26 in Hünenberg.

An ominous letter hangs on the glass door of what may well be called the ’legendary’ kiosk in Hünenberg. The bankruptcy office (Konkursamt) has been here, and has sealed the business and storage premises according to the bankruptcy order of 16 May this year. Neither the manager nor any employees thereby have access to the premises. A compilation of the inventory will now be used to check whether there are enough assets to cover the costs of the bankruptcy proceedings.

It remains unclear whether the kiosk at Chamerstrasse 29, which has been well frequented for many years, has fallen victim to the general "death of the shop" or whether the reasons lie elsewhere. The Zuger Zeitung newspaper has not been able to contact the owner of the shop.

Not much more can be found out about the former shop. The entry in the Commercial Register (Handelsregister) under the name Villiger Kiosk GmbH was made in 1994, after the shop had existed for some years without an entry as Frieda Villiger Kiosk. The people of Hünenberg also like to call the shop Moos Kiosk, as it is located right next to the Moos bus stop, or simply "The kiosk".

Construction of a petrol station shop caused concern
There is also a newspaper article from 2005 in which the owners Rita and Frieda Villiger - mother and daughter - expressed their concerns about the construction of a petrol station and garage - Iten Autos - near their shop. The owners were concerned about the shop that would soon be opened next to the petrol station: "We have many regular customers and now hope that they will stay with us," says Rita Villiger in the article. The two women were worried about whether their kiosk would be able to continue.

It stayed in business for a further 17 years, however. And the clientele was satisfied - at least judging by the Google reviews. From "family atmosphere" to "best kiosk ever", everything is there in the comments. Only now and then was the strong smell of cigarette smoke criticised.

And finally, the latest entry from a month ago: "Unfortunately, this kiosk is no longer open. Wish Mrs Villiger all the best for the future." With the decision in May, the company was dissolved and bankruptcy proceedings were opened. The Moos Kiosk will thereby soon be history. But its regular customers will surely remember it for a long time.
