SBB to close the manned counter at the railway station

The SBB will convert Cham railway station into a self-service station on 1 July 2022. In doing so, it is responding to the constant decrease in demand for served sales.

The needs of customers have changed, with only a good 5% of all tickets being now bought at the counter. The corona pandemic has further accelerated the use of digital channels, as reported by the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways). For this reason, the SBB is also converting Cham railway station into a self-service station. This will take place as of 1 July, according to the announcement on Tuesday.

Customers can obtain a ticket quickly and easily, even without a manned counter. Around 95% of ticket purchases throughout Switzerland already take place via self-service sales channels. The need for personal advice is constantly increasing In the medium-sized and large travel centres, while the number of customers at the small locations continues to decline sharply.

Options for personal advice
Zug's sales team will continue to be happy to help with personal advice on buying tickets or for planning trips and excursions. Customers can also book a consultation appointment at the Zug Travel Centre on sbb.ch/termin.

Training courses for customers
The SBB will inform all interested parties on site about the operation of the ticket machines, timetable information and ticket purchase via SBB Mobile and SBB.ch: The information events will take place at Cham station on 2 and 28 June 2022, every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to this option, the SBB itself and various partner organisations such as Rundum Mobil, Pro Senectute and the Swisscom Academy offer training courses.
