Menstrual items now available free of charge on the campus

Tampons and pads are now being provided free of charge on the Zug-Rotkreuz campus of the HSLU, and all-gender toilets have also been introduced.

Employees and students at the HSLU site in Zug-Rotkreuz are now being offered menstrual items free of charge from dispensers. In addition, two all-gender toilets have been introduced on the campus.

At the beginning of July, several women's toilets and two parallel all-gender toilets on the Zug-Rotkreuz campus were fitted with a total of ten dispensers for organic-cotton tampons and pads. The toilets in question were marked with adhesive signs on the outside of the door this week.

Why has the HSLU decided to provide these menstrual items for free? "The project was submitted to the Departmental Participation Commission on the initiative of employees of the Department of Computer Science," says Martin Zimmermann, Project Manager Newsroom and Corporate Communications, in his written answer to this question. The aim of the project is to ensure the free supply of menstrual items to employees and students on campus.

For the time being, this campaign will be a test phase that will run until the end of the year, and the students and staff on the Zug-Rotkreuz campus will be asked for feedback in November. If the feedback is positive, it’s planned to make the provision of menstrual items a fixed offer after the test phase, adds Martin Zimmermann.

An extension of the free provision of menstrual items to other HSLU locations is not planned at this time, however. Martin Zimmermann comments:

"The offer is only for the Zug-Rotkreuz campus for the time being."
