Galvanik suffering from cancellations and postponements

The programme of the Galvanik  - the Cultural Centre in Zug - up to the end of the year is characterised by cancelled and postponed concerts. There is a variety of reasons for this, but all have to do with the pandemic. But there is a small ray of hope for Galvanik fans, however.

"We'll be back – we'll start again from January." says the Facebook page of the Galvanik in Zug, Chollermühle. At the same time, other Facebook posts, as well as the programme on the page of the popular event centre testify to the many cancelled concerts and events. Does this early holiday break have anything to do with the Corona cases after the record christening of the Zug band Weibello?

Galvanik Manager Eila Bredehöft denies this. At least as far as the cancellations for this weekend are concerned. "There was a different reason for every concert: in one case, the musicians were in quarantine or isolation, in another we had too few staff due to illness and quarantines, and the testing needed for travelling became too complicated for a band from abroad." Unfortunately, the result was that there wouldn’t be any concerts for the rest of this year.

Outbreak has shown that there is a risk despite measures
The Galvanik closed its doors last week – one week after the Weibello concert –for safety reasons, however. "Although the whole team wore masks on the evening, they all voluntarily took a PCR test after the infections became known. But we didn’t receive the results in time, which is why the concert had to be cancelled." Fortunately, no one from the team who was in action that evening was infected. Eila Bredehöft continued:

"However, the evening also clearly showed us the risk that is present at events, despite the observance of all the measures."

The fact that the two parties on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve also had to be cancelled has to do with the delayed decisions of the canton: "Unfortunately, the possibility of the imposition of 2G restrictions has only been official since this Thursday." But she would have had to make the decision as to whether to hold the larger parties earlier. "As the events would not have been possible with 3G plus mask, we have cancelled them up to the end of the year."

"Viertel vor Fritig" will continue to take place
A small ray of hope remains for Galvanik goers, however. The "Viertel vor Fritig" on Thursday evenings – with a smaller bar and musical entertainment – will continue to take place. The doors in the Galvanik will thereby still open on 16 and 23 December of this year.
