EVZ women have now scored more than 200 goals

For the first game of the new year, the EVZ Women's Team travelled to the Obersee to face the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lady Lakers on Tuesday, 02.01.2024.

12th game, 12th win: as expected, the EV Zug women's ice hockey team continues to dominate the SWHL (Swiss Women’s Hockey League) B in 2024, although the team did concede its second goal of the season in the game against SC Rapperswil-Jona Lady Lakers (15:1 win). This was also the first time that goalie Eveliina Mäkinen has had to concede a goal in the current championship. The other goal that the team conceded this season was scored against goalie Chiara Pfosi at the beginning of December, in the 24:1 win in Lyss.

Lena-Marie Lutz scored the most points in the latest victory (5 goals, 2 assists), while Annika Fazokas had the honour of scoring the 200th goal of the season. After the game, Zug assistant coach Christoph Scherrer spoke on the EVZ website of a mixed performance, which was also due to the low training rhythm during the festive break. The EVZ won the first leg against Rapperswil in the BOSSARD Arena by 27:0.

EVZ were without its U-18 players for the second encounter with Rapperswil, as Naemi Herzig, Jaël Manetsch, Julia Näf, Ivana Wey and Lorena Wrann are attending a preparation camp with the U18 national team, which will be competing in the world championships in Zug from 6 January. Nonetheless, Daniela Diaz's team carried the momentum from their Cup round of 16 victory over top-flight Fribourg-Gottéron shortly before Christmas into the new year. With less than half of the qualifying campaign remaining, the aim is to sharpen up their on-ice processes in order to be ready for the playoffs and league qualification, which is their goal.

The women’s team then played in Sursee on Saturday. They continued their scoring run, with Lara Stadler scoring the first goal after only 13 seconds, and ended the first third at 0-5. Despite continuing to score in the second third, they conceded only their 3rd goal of the season, when Emma Simpson scored for Sursee in the 32nd minute. The EVZ nevertheless finished the 2nd third at 1-13, and won the game with a final score of 1-18.

After their 13th game of the current league season, the EVZ women’s team has now scored an amazing 225 goals, while only conceding 3. They now stand at the top of the league with 39 points, 15 points ahead of their nearest competitor, EHZ Zunzgen-Sissach, who have 2 games in hand.
