City Council wants to donate another CHF 400,000

The committee has decided on an emergency aid contribution of CHF 100,000 each for four Swiss aid organisations. The  Parliament will decide on the disbursement.

Due to the "precarious situation" in the Ukraine, the Zug city council (Stadtrat) wants to "act immediately", it says. It has decided on an emergency aid contribution of CHF 100,000 each for four Swiss aid organisations. These are the Swiss Red Cross, Caritas Switzerland, Swiss Solidarity and the relief organisation of the Evangelical Reformed Church Switzerland.

City Councillor André Wicki is quoted as saying: "The people affected by the war in the Ukraine are dependent on help to save lives. It is our natural duty to help here. Our emergency aid directly benefits the people affected by this dramatic crisis." The Grand Municipal Council (Grosse Gemeinderat) will have the last word, probably at the meeting on 12 April.

At the beginning of March, the city also announced that it would transfer an amount of CHF 200,000 to Swiss Solidarity "to alleviate the humanitarian crisis" in the Ukraine.
