Three arrested after safe is stolen from flat

Last Saturday three men stole a safe from a flat in Holzhäusern. Thanks to police efforts, they have been caught and now face prosecution.

The theft took place between 9 am and12.30 pm after the intruders made their way into the flat with a stolen key. Once inside, they stole a safe containing items to the value of CHF 160,000. When the owner returned to his flat, he noticed the theft and called the police immediately. Thanks to their speedy response, the police were able to detain one culprit, a 22-year-old Swiss man, the very same day. When questioned, he admitted he had been assisted by a 26-year-old Swiss man and an Italian of the same age. Assisted by the Zurich Police, these two were then able to be arrested in their homes in that canton last Tuesday. They also confessed to the crime. After being initially detained, they were subsequently released but now face prosecution, as mentioned.
Fortunately, all stolen items were able to be returned to their owner.

There is no news, as yet, of anyone being arrested in connection with the burglary last weekend when a hole was smashed through an office wall in Walterswil to gain access to a safe containing several thousands of francs.

The police advise anyone spotting someone acting suspiciously in their area not to hesitate the call them on 117. This applies in particular if they hear glass being smashed.

They also advise householders to lock all doors and close windows, especially those on balconies and by patios. They further recommend leaving lights on or having them connected to timers and motion detectors.

Finally, make sure your home does not give the impression it is unoccupied.
