Only a few changes to affect rail passenegers

Rail passengers will have seen the SBB posters showing the railway clock with a notice in red to the left drawing their attention to changes in the timetable from Sunday 9 December onwards. However, this year, only minimal changes come into force.

Those who travel on the S24 towards Zurich will be pleased to know that, as from next Sunday, this train will depart primarily from platform six, and not from a variety of platforms as hitherto, except the 5.34am service, which will leave from platform one, and the 6.04am service on Sundays, which will leave from platform seven.

As for long distance trains, the IR70 service on the Lucerne-Zug-Zurich HBF (main station) route will also call at Thalwil, with the IR75 service stopping in Rotkreuz, Baar and Thalwil. Both services stop in Zug, of course. The IR70 stops in Zurich without going on to Oerlikon and the airport, whereas the IR75 will now operate hourly to Zurich and continue, via the airport, to Winterthur, Weinfelden and Constance.

As SBB spokesman Reto Schärli explained, the main changes to affect rail traffic in the canton will start next year when the Oberwil-Arth-Goldau stretch on the eastern shoreline of Lake Zug will be closed between Monday 10 June 2019 until Sunday 13 December 2020 as an additional track is laid in the Walchwil area. The stretch between Zug station and Oberwil will also be closed between Tuesday 14 April and Sunday 13 December 2020, though additional bus services will operate during these times.

As to changes to bus timetables, the number four service connecting Zug, Inwil, Baar and Blickensdorf will operate for an additional two hours between Mondays and Saturdays between Baar station and Blickensdorf, i.e. until 10pm, and the number 14 Zug station/Metalli-Inwil-Baar station services will also run for two hours longer, up until 8pm in this case, on both accounts as a result of public demand.
