Why throw it away when you can get it mended?

So many things get thrown away when, very often, they only need repairing. The problem is, where does one go to get things mended? On Saturday, a Repair Café is being set up at the Loreto training school premises at number 40 Löberenstrasse in the city, so don’t throw away that toy, book, toaster, item of clothing or furniture, lamp or mixer away, just because they have some minor defect.

It is at the education centre that a number of volunteer experts will be on hand to repair these items between 10 am and 3 pm, and, what is more, at no charge, though any new parts fitted have to be paid for.

The idea for these Repair-Cafés came from the Netherlands originally. Now they have been set up in a number of Swiss towns but this is the first time one is being set up in Zug. The other good thing is that, while you wait, you can enjoy a cup of coffee.

As Paola de Coppi of the organising team explained, these repair sessions are supported by the Foundation for Consumer Protection. She went on to say that they would look forward to hearing from other experts able to restore electric items to working order, or mend clothes, including those made of leather, who would be willing to give up some free time to help.

Anyone interested is kindly asked to send an e-mail either to info.afu.@zug.ch or repaircafezug@gmail.com.
