Video about cheese-vending machine gets over 12 million hits

A video about a cheese-vending machine in Hünenberg See has gone viral, with over 12 million people clicking to see it, thanks to a US online magazine posting it on its site.

The video shows the machine, in a chalet-like setting, as a speaker announces, in English, “I am a cheese-selling machine” to the accompaniment of rousing music from a brass band, as it is then explained how it all works.

A woman is seen entering the number of the cheese required, collecting it from the drawer and showing it to the camera for all to see. Viewers are informed the machine is, of course, operational 24 hours a day and seven days a week, just what is needed for those who yearn cheese when the shops are shut.

The great popularity of this video is due in no small way to being posted online by the New York-based online Insider magazine. In addition to it having been viewed by over 12 million, it has attracted 110,000 comments and 36,000 likes, all in just under one week.

The machine, which is sited on the premises of the Lustenberger & Durst SA cheese-making company, has actually been operational for nearly four months now and serves portions of cheese, with or without sausage, and drinks, too.

Something else for visitors to see when on a sight-seeing tour of Zug.
