Only 99 days until the Zug Cantonal Swiss-Wrestling Festival

There is already much excitement about the National Swiss-Wrestling and Alpine Festival (Esaf), which is to take place in the canton between 23 and 25 August this year, but before this, in 99 days’ time on Sunday 5 May, the 100th Zug Cantonal Swiss-Wrestling Tournament (ZKSF) is to take place at the Sportpark in Rotkreuz.

Some 200 Swiss-wrestlers and as many as 4,000 visitors are expected to attend the event. It is the winners at the ZKSF who are expected to be able to take part in Esaf, just over three months later.

Further details about ZKSF have just been disclosed, with one major highlight being the presence of Pipo, the prize-winning bull of Zug Bull Market fame, thanks to sponsorship provided by the Rotkreuz-based Büwe Tiefbau AG civil engineering company. In addition to a number of well -known TV and radio presenters commenting on the events, former Swiss-wrestling champion Harry Knüsel of Abtwil in the canton of St Gallen will also be in attendance.

As Peter Hausheer, the mayor of Risch Rotkreuz and the chairman of ZKSF organising committee, explained, while the tournament itself does not get under way until Sunday 5 May, celebrations will start with a bar and banquet on the previous Friday, when Heinz Tännler, the cantonal director of finance and chairman of the Esaf organising committee, will also be present. Tickets for this can be obtained from tickets@zksf.ch. As for musical entertainment, this will be provided, among others, by the Swinging Boys. Furthermore, there will be no admission charges on the Friday, nor on the Saturday, when sporting lumberjacks will be doing their stuff.

Anyone wanting to reserve tickets already can do so by downloading the www.zksf.ch website, prices starting at CHF 12 or CHF 25 for the grandstands.
