New archivist to the canton appointed

The cantonal government has announced that Ernst Guggisberg has been appointed archivist to the canton of Zug. The 36-year-old is to take on his new role on Tuesday 1 January 2019 after starting work there one month earlier.

A graduate in history from the University of Basel, Guggisberg brings with him much experience having worked for ten years in the Cantonal Archives of Thurgovia. It was here, for example, where he oversaw various archiving projects through from conception to completion. He also holds a doctorate in history after writing a thesis on the placement of poor children and young adults into the care of other families in German-speaking Switzerland between 1848 and 1965, and subsequently went on to take a master’s degree in archive, library and information science at the universities of Bern and Lausanne; he is in fact a specialist in the storage of electronic data.

In addition to all this, he brings with him further experience having worked in other archives in Switzerland and Germany.
