Locals asked to sparing with water

The lack of rain and high temperatures in recent weeks has led to locals in Menzingen being asked to be sparing in their use of water.

The suppliers pointed out that, while on Saturday 21 July demand was at 930 cubic metres, it rose over the course of the week to 1,300 cubic metres last Saturday, an increase thought to have been caused by people watering gardens.

Hence the authorities are asking locals not to water lawns at all and only to water other areas of the garden when absolutely necessary. Furthermore, they ask householders to make sure no cisterns are leaking and that dripping taps are repaired without delay. Other recommendations are to take a shower rather than a bath and also to use dishwashers and washing machines only when full. Drivers are asked not to use a hose to wash the car with everyone asked to be sparing with water in general.

Temperatures as high as 35°C are expected in the Basel, Lake Geneva, Rhone Valley and Ticino areas this week.
