Local hairdresser to take part in Coiffeur Olympiade

Hünernberg-born hairdresser Simone Rigliaco is off to Toronto shortly to take part in the Coiffeur Olympiade there.

Having initially trained at Intercoiffure Hair & Beauty in Baar, he went on to work at the Coiffure Valentino in Zurich, where the 22-year-old is now deputy manager.

For some time now, Rigliaco has been taking part in regional and national hairdressing championships. Two years ago he won the Color Zoom Challenge organised by the Goldwell company, enabling him to take part in the international Coiffeur Olympiade held in Stockholm that year.  “Even though I did not win a prize, the experience of taking part in such a competition made me want to enter others,” he said. This year he again did well enough to be able to take part in the Coiffeur Olympiade. Hence in two weeks’ time he is off to Toronto to represent Switzerland in the New Talent Artist category.

It is at the three-day event that Rigliaco will be competing against hairdressers from 25 other countries. What happens is that each hairdresser in a particular category has three hours to create a style in front of a live audience. This is then followed by an evening presentation with some 4,000 people present. Naturally everything has to be right for that, not just the hairstyle, but the outfit and make-up of the model, too.

It goes without saying Rigliaco is currently very busy preparing. He has already chosen a model and is having her outfit specially made. He explained how he usually needs twenty minutes’ preparation prior to cutting one of his regular clients, while for this competition he has been preparing for nine months.

As to what style his model would be sporting that evening, all he would say was that it would be of chin length with a tint giving a somewhat avant-garde appearance.
