Fascinating old photographs of municipality go on show

As of 4pm on Saturday 21 September an exhibition of over one hundred fascinating old photographs of Neuheim goes on display in the attic room of the Neuhof multi-purpose building in the municipality.

One of the photographs shows the first ever Post bus to serve Neuheim in the Forties. It made a number of locals ask themselves whether some of the people depicted in it were members of the Niederberger family who were responsible for post matters in those days.

What is clear is that the building to the right in the background is the old Schäfli house, which used to be a restaurant and bakery. Unfortunately, it burnt to the ground in1966.

The photograph may remind elderly locals that Neuheim was in fact the last of the municipalities in the canton to be linked up to public transport. Even today it can only reached via Baar; the conveyance between 1916 and 1924 being by horse-drawn carriage. Then, the council insisted it was put on the Post bus route, but this only went as far as the tram in Edlibach, which was a bit out of the way and the fare was not cheap, either, resulting in many residents of Neuheim actually preferring to walk to Baar. Only in 1933 did the first motorised connection between Baar and Neuheim operate.

As Monika Keiser of the Cultural Committee behind the exhibition mentioned, it is hoped people will be reminded of the background to some of the photographs and pass the stories they evoke on to others, so they will not be forgotten.

She mentioned that, as photographs came in, one turned up of her grandmother at work in the fields at harvest time, one neither she nor other members of her family had ever seen before.

As mentioned, the exhibitions opens at 4pm on Saturday 22 September and remains open until 9 pm that day.
The following day it is open from 11 pm until 6 pm and from Monday 24 until Friday 28 it is open from 5 pm until 9 pm. On Saturday 29 it is open between 9 am and 8 pm.

The mayor of Neuheim, Roger Bosshart, has already seen it and was very impressed.
