Our 2019 Christmas Shopping Guide

The decorations are up and like it or not, now is the time to start shopping and decide who’s been naughty and who's been nice. We came up with plenty of nice ideas for all the recipients on your list. Think local this season and support Zug business owners. For extra shopping fun, in December there will be special openings on two weekends before Christmas. From Zug to Walchwil and all the towns in between, stores will be open on Sunday, December 15th and Sunday, December 22nd. We hope you find just what you're looking for and have a wonderful time giving this year.
For the philanthropic family member

The annual sale of the hand-painted Terre des hommes Christmas ornaments is always a great success, helping children in need around the world. The beautiful ornaments are handpanted by Polish women working from home, enabling them to be self-employed and to take care of their children. There are eight Zug themed subjects painted on the ornaments, and sets of 4 will be offered on smaller balls, available in blue, white and red. Make someone smile this holiday season and feel good about supporting a worthy cause.

For the discerning spirits aficionado

Straight from the Etter distillery, these famous fruit brandies have been around for generations, and for good reason. The family is dedicated to quality and tradition and are celebrating 150 years in the business. They will of course offer their Christmas plum brandy (Weihnachtspflümli 18% Vol.),a perfect accompaniment to your holiday gatherings and meals. Or give something even more special this year. Splash out on their limited edition Jubiläums Kirsch (42% Vol.), made from the best cherries and presented in a gorgeous box with a vintage label from the past. Their on-line shop makes it easy to peruse all their products, or visit the showroom for help with creating a bespoke gift.

For your favorite chocoholic

Läderach is now in Zug! Head straight to their heavenly-smelling shop in Metalli for their distinctive assortment of flavors, textures and gift options. We recently stepped in and were mesmerized by all the wrapped boxes of pralines, bonbons, truffles and of course, the famous Läderach Schoggi neatly placed in small, medium and large cellophane säckli (bags). So many chocolate treats, so many days until Christmas! Their Advent calendars will delight your youngest chocolate lovers and the adorable Samichlaus makes a delicious stocking stuffer for all.
For the Swissophiles on your list

For so many cute ideas and items go straight to Wunderbox in the Altstadt and buy up any number of Swiss-related gifts! With everything from tea towels, cutting boards, and knives (Swiss Army) to ornaments & children's toys, they even have a Zug Monopoly board game. What better way to spend Christmas afternoon with the family, than buying up properties and going around the board in our favorite Swiss stadt? And if need to get some cardio during the holiday, ask for the Zytturm key to get you started. Take in one of the best views in Zug by heading up the stairs into the clock tower.

For the woman who has everything

Forget the bottle of perfume or an impersonal gift card. Treat your special lady to a one of a kind piece of jewelry, made in Zug. The experts at Atelier Wassmann can create bespoke pieces, especially suited to your favorite female. Their variety of precious and semi-precious stones, combined with bold and modern settings of gold and platinum will set her apart from the rest. No one ever said no to jewelry on Christmas day!

For the man who has everything

Sometimes your guy needs a special gift. If you’ve got a gentleman in your life that enjoys cigars, then you need to check out the Cigar Lounge. Located within the multi-purpose space of the Freiruum, this combination bar, lounge and poker room is a step above. Open from Thursday to Saturday from 5pm to midnight, the bar has a range of whiskies and barista coffees. The selection of cigars will surprise you. They even offer special events for groups of 10-50, so it could also be a great chance for coworkers to come together in a cozy atmosphere during the holidays.

For the grandparents

Start a tradition by giving images of your smiling children. Foto Optik Grau has a variety of items you can personalize for your favorite Oma and Opa. Get creative and consider a bespoke photo book, calendar, frames or even specialized paintings that they well be delighted to show off and use often. Even if you don't live in the same town, they will feel closer to the grandkids with these heartfelt and unique gifts.

For those who prefer an experience

Gather your family and friends and walk to Freiruum right in the heart of Zug. This new and hip multipurpose market hall is the best way to spend a cold, gray day. The bouldering walls, trampoline and parkour areas offer active fun for all ages. When everyone has gotten tired, the many food stalls have something for all tastes (Japanese, Lebanese, Italian, British, Burgers plus much more) to re-energize and the central bar allows the adults to have some refreshing beverages.

For the best colleague

Why not give them Something Different? This arts and craft shop in Menzingen is a unique alternative to a traditional shop. They showcase and sell works from local artists and craftspeople. You will find one-of-a kind items in a space that is dedicated to bringing the community together. If you aren't sure about what to actually buy, consider signing up for a workshop or class together. Let creativity spark your imagination this season.
