Perched high above Walchwil with sweeping views of central Switzerland, Bergrestaurant Pfaffenboden is entering a bold new era. Now run by Clara Cortés and Luca Zarrelli – partners in both life and hospitality – this mountaintop retreat blends down-to-earth flavors with creative flair. Alongside them is chocolatier Simeon Rückert, who roasts cocoa beans on-site to craft his signature, fruit-forward chocolate. Their philosophy is simple: honest food made from local ingredients, prepared with care and curiosity. Think Walchwiler milk ice cream, bratwurst caramelized over a Japanese yakitori grill, and slow-cooked veal cheeks – if you ask ahead. Reopening April 27.
